Monthly and annual CPI answer different questions
Monthly CPI compares the price index with the previous month; annual CPI compares it with the same month a year earlier. Base effects can change the annual rate even when recent price momentum tells a different story. A nominal gain is not a real gain
A hypothetical investment return of 30% alongside 25% inflation gives an approximate real return of 1.30 ÷ 1.25 − 1 = 4%, before costs. Subtracting the rates gives only an approximation. This calculation uses a specified consumer-price basket; an individual’s spending pattern and home-currency purchasing power may differ.
Connect policy to the transmission channel
A CBRT decision can affect money-market conditions, deposit and loan pricing, expectations and demand. The policy rate alone does not describe every borrower’s funding cost. Read the Monetary Policy Committee statement and the Inflation Report for the bank’s assessment, then test that assessment against observed data and company disclosures.
Read company growth with its accounting basis
Reported sales can increase because of prices, volumes, mix, acquisitions or exchange rates. Inflation accounting also changes comparability. IAS 29 sets a framework for reporting in hyperinflationary economies; read each issuer’s stated accounting basis and notes to see how it has been applied. Do not compare restated and unadjusted figures as if they were equivalent.
Follow cash, margins and replacement costs
Review inventory funding, receivable collection, pricing power and the cost of replacing assets. A larger nominal profit need not mean stronger cash generation. The Premium Investor Pack connects these issues to sector research, valuation questions and worked examples. For the latest inflation observation, use the official monthly release; the website’s annual macro charts clearly label their observation periods.
Common questions
Where should I check the latest Turkish CPI release?
Start with TurkStat’s data portal and its release calendar. Verify the observation month and whether the number is monthly or annual.
Do higher Turkish share prices automatically beat inflation?
No. Compare a consistent total return with the relevant inflation measure, fees, taxes and currency exposure over the same period.
